Dear Fellow Academy Member,
Building a museum from the ground up is a daunting activity. There is land to acquire, city planners to engage, permits to apply for, designers and architects to interview, funds to be raised – a whole host of efforts that must all move forward in careful balance. We have been engaged in that process for a few years now. First with Frank Pierson at the helm, and now under the leadership of his equally enthusiastic successor, Sid Ganis, we have visited far-flung museums and spoken to designers, museum directors, consultants, educators, and film experts both outside and within our esteemed membership.
It is neither an easy process nor a short one, nor should we expect it to be. For the Academy to put its name on a new institution, that institution must rise to the level of excellence that this organization embodies, and that will take work.
But it need not be a mysterious process. This occasional newsletter represents an effort to ensure that the Academy membership comes along for this ride, however bumpy or unusual it may be at times. This museum that we are building will be yours, mine, all of ours, and we want you to be with us from the very beginning.
