The Museum of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

Letter from the President

Dear Fellow Academy Member,

As I hope you know, the Academy has spent more than a fair bit of time and energy in the past couple of years in pursuit of creating a new, long-overdue institution – a museum devoted to motion pictures. We are still in that pursuit stage; indeed a great deal remains to be accomplished and a number of stars, if you will, to align before we can say with certainty when we will build this place. But enough progress has been made to warrant this publication to keep the membership as a whole informed about what we hope to do, how and why we hope to do it, and where we are within the process. For now, the frequency of this newsletter will be, well, infrequent. But we will publish it as often as notable progress (or perhaps, setbacks) warrant.

You should know that all of the men and women from among our ranks who have been or are currently an active part of this endeavor – whether serving on committees, responding to questionnaires, embarking on detailed research, all of it – are committed to proceeding with the utmost seriousness, diligence and integrity. And it will be from that amazingly strong foundation that our museum, when it is to be built, will in fact rise.

Sid Ganis
President
